Life

Life is funny.  No one ever knows how long we have on this wonderful planet.  For some, its too short of a time.  For others, its a long full life.  However, it never seems long enough does it?  One of my best friends from my home town lost their mother to the evilness of cancer over the weekend.  It seems to me, that evil disease takes too many we love way too early.  She fought hard but now, I like to think, she is in a better place.  One without pain and one that makes you feel safe.
I cannot imagine what is going through his mind at a time like this.  Since my hubby and I live 1000 miles away its been hard.  Unfortunetly we cannot attend the funeral services.  However, I am trying to send my good wishes, and love and hugs telepathically.  I really, really hope its working.  Email helps too, and all the other technolocial advances of our time.  It is times like this that makes living so far away hard.  Wanting to be there for our friends at a difficult time like this and not being able to is something difficult for me.
Hopefully, they can hear me.  If they can hear me, I hope they know I am thinking of them in this difficult time.  May she rest in peace.

Another school year, another softball season

Tomorrow is Wednesday.  What a weird day to start school, right?  Missouri schools, well Kirksville schools, start tomorrow.  While I am not a teacher, I do coach middle school softball.  So with the start of the new school year, a new softball season starts tomorrow as well.  For me, this means getting up before the roosters (as my nice co-worker puts it) and getting my butt to work by 6:30, yes, that is 6:30 am.  All so I can leave at 3:00 in the afternoon to make my way to the ball field.
Coming from Pennsylvania, its strange to me to be playing ball in the fall.  Its nicer days, and less rainy, but to me softball has always been a spring sport.  Here in Missouri it is played in the fall.  Or, late summer since our season ends four days after the first official day of "fall".
I love coaching, which I have said before.  Something about passing on my knowledge to the youth.  It great to teach them something then watch them actually do it.  Like get a double play, or lay down the perfect slap bunt.  Its an amazing feeling.
This year is going to be exciting.  I cannot wait to see how many kids come out for the team.  I know the 8th grade girls really well as I have coached them all sometime or another during the summer months.  The 7th grade class coming in is all new to me.  It will be interesting to see how their fundamentals are.  How much work they need, how they react to our rules.
My co-coach is super easy to get along with.  We pretty much agree on everything, and I am sure we will have many coaches "meetings".  I am so excited to get the season going!  I will keep you posted how we do.
Let's PLAY BALL!!!

Visits

I love visits!  People coming to visit us is just so much fun.  J's mom was just in town a few weeks ago.  Here are all the fun things we got to do!  :)
Remember, I live in Kirksville MO...a small big town if that makes sense.  There isn't that much to do, but we always find something.  While J's mom was here, we ate at all our towns hot spots.  The first night we went to Napoli's for some good Italian food.  I love Italian food.  We ate Japanese for lunch the next day.  On Friday the hubby and I took the day off from work.  I love taking days off from work!  We went shopping in Columbia.  Which, for those who aren't familiar with the distance between our house and Columbia MO, its an hour and a half.  Yup an hour and a half to get to the closest mall.  Can you imagine?  I couldn't either at first.  But now I am used to it I suppose.  Nothing, I mean no Kohl's or Old Navy or Target.  We have a 24 hour Walmart though!  Oh and a Penny's.  And we just got a new shoe store...but I am getting off topic.
We also invited our friends over while J's mom was here.  We had a cookout.  We invited our "Missouri" friends.  It was a blast.  Before they came over though, we played a little rock band.  I even have pictures to prove it.  Check 'em out.
Mom on the drums
She really liked rocking out on the guitar!
It's funny to introduce a new group of friends to our parents.  J's mom got to meet our friends all at once.  The next day we asked her if they reminded her of our Pennsylvania friends at all.  She told us no, they were completely different then our friends back in PA.  Crazy.  You just figure you would gravitate toward a specific personality.  All I know is that both groups are fantastic, and I wouldn't trade either group in at all.  I love my friends and family!  Having J's mom out here was awesome!  It makes my hubby very happy that she came to visit.  As family pictures prove:
Tomorrow J's sister is coming to visit!  Like I said, I love visits!  :)

Golfing

Yesterday we went golfing with our friends.  It was only the second time I went out golfing, not mini-golfing, in my whole life.  J and I went out over 4th of July weekend.  The first time I went out, I lost a lot of golf balls in the huge lakes they put in the middle of golf courses.  I mean, who puts big things of water in the middle of a golf course anyway?  I don't think that is very fair at all.  We played nine holes.  I lost about 12 golf balls.  Not so good.  I scored a 67, on 9 holes.  For my first time golfing not so bad.
So after my first time out we told our friends about it.  So now, they wanted to make a date to go golfing with us.  Great.  I was really nervous.  Good thing, the girl in the other couple is new to this golfing thing too.  So at least we weren't with total professionals.  But still I was nervous.  It was a beautiful day yesterday.  Warm, but not humid and a little breeze.  Perfect for golfing.  :)
I think my favorite part of golfing is riding around in the golf cart.  They are so much fun I want to buy one.  So, off we start on our golf adventure.  You know what?  I wasn't half bad.  This time, I didn't hit any huge water obstacles in the course at all.  I got to keep the same ball the whole time!  And I found two balls a long the way.  I was so happy.  I scored a 60 on 9 holes, so I even did better than my first time out.  I am in love with this golf thing.  Seriously, it gets you outside for a couple of hours (in this case it took us 4 hours to golf...no idea why) and its really fun.  You can even do this with friends, which makes it even better.  Next time though, we will need to make sure to take beer with us.  There is no beer cart at the course we went to!  I told my dad last night next time he comes to visit, I will be able to go out golfing with him too!  Maybe I can even beat him.  Yeah right.

The Best Place on Earth--Disney World

Two posts in one night, look at me go.

In March, my hubby and I along with my parents went on a vacation.  We went to Disney World for a whole week.  Seriously, next to my honeymoon and my trip to London, this was one of the best vacations ever.  We had so much fun and fit so many things into 7 days that you could fit into 7 days plus more.
When you arrive at the airport, its awesome.  The people who help you get on the right bus have these gigantic Mickey Mouse hands.  If I would ever move to Florida I would want to work for Disney...and the job at the airport with the big Mickey hands is the job I would want.
We met my parents at the resort...and ate lunch at a little place called Olivia's, which is significant because that happens to be my adorable niece's name.  Our room was super nice.  And we crammed so much into the first night there, we even kept my parents out past midnight.  Here are a few pictures from our first night at Disney:

We ate at a place called Boma for dinner.  It is an African buffet and was so yummy!  Its inside Animal Kingdom Lodge:

Then we went to Magic Kingdom.  For Magic Hours.  Did I mention this was my first trip to Disney?  The first time I saw the castle I probably looked like a five year old girl.  I couldn't believe how awesome it was.  Seriously, check it out.

They have a parade and fireworks too!

This is how we ended the first night in Disney.  This is how I will end this post.  Maybe next time I will post my 10 favorite things we did in Disney.

Voting

Today is Tuesday.  In Missouri, its primary election day.  So like a good Missouri citizen I went over to our polling station and cast my vote in our primary election.  Go me.  My polling place is the public library.  There are about 6 old ladies who sit behind the table when you walk in.  They all have a job, one scans your id, the next clicks away on her laptop to make sure you are who you say you are (or who your id says you are), the next puts the little sticker that prints out in a notebook and then turns the book so you can sign your name by the sticker, then the next three ladies help you pick which party ballot you need, democrat, republican, libertarian, or constitutional.  Now, when I walked into the library today, there were a ton of people.  When I say a ton, I mean like 2.  Me and the person who was standing in front of me.  I am only telling this story, because what happened annoyed me a lot.
To paint a picture, the person in front of me had tattoo's everywhere, shaved head, a shirt with the sleeves cut off, and the arm holes much bigger than they needed to be.  He had no idea where his polling station was in town (I think he just moved).  The six elderly ladies behind the table were judging him (you could see it in their faces) because of how he looked, I can only assume.  He was not supposed to be at the library because of his address he had to go to the Moose Lodge to vote.  Fine, goodbye guy in front of me.  Then when I went through, the third lady behind the table said "well at least you are legal".  Which I can only assume she meant I was were I was supposed to be--unlike that guy.
Now, in Kirksville where I live, the primary election does not get a very high turn out from the citizens of this county.  So while I was standing there watching the situation go down in front of me, I could only think one thing.  The old ladies were judging this guy by how he looked.  He was a little rough around the edges, I admit, but I thought to myself at least he cares enough to vote.  People complain a lot about what is going on, however, when it comes time to vote and make a change about what is happening, people don't.  These ladies looked at this guy like, I cannot believe you are in our polling station...what are you thinking?  I looked at him like, well at least you care enough to vote.

A thing called blogging.

So today, my friend Jenny G told me about her blog.  She told me I should start blogging too.  So here I am giving it a try.  What does one blog about, I wonder?  I guess I will just blog what comes to mind at that moment.  Today we will start at the beginning.
I have been married for 4 years to a wonderful husband (J).  He is my best friend.  We live in the wonderful state of Missouri (which took some time getting used to).
J and I coach softball.  We coach a 14u travel team in the summer.  I also coach at the middle school here in town.  I love to coach softball.  It takes up a lot of my time, but I enjoy it.
Here are some other random things I love...Friends and Family, Zumba (its the most fun I have ever  had working out!), Scrapbooking, Bowling, and of course Sports!  Anyone who knows me (even within the first five mins of meeting me) knows that I love sports.  I enjoy watching all the Philly teams, Penn State, and Mizzou.  Anytime my brother has a question about sports he usually asks me.  He tells everyone that I am the one with the sports penis.  Nice, huh?  I enjoy playing softball of course, but also tennis, raquetball and now am getting into golfing (which I am sure funny stories will come from this).
Some other random things about me.  I have the cutest niece ever in the history of nieces.  She seriously is adorable, and looks just like my brother.  I will post pictures later.  I miss her, my whole family, and our friends in Pennsylvania dearly.  Oh, and the Yuengling...I really miss the Yuengling.
